Life-Saving Event: Join Us in Finding a Donor for Cook Children’s Doctor

A social media campaign and a hospital-wide effort have been launched in Frisco, Texas to find a compatible blood stem cell donor for Dr. Danny Kim, a pediatrician at Cook Children’s Hospital who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Despite the outpouring of support, Dr. Kim’s search for a donor has been challenging due to his Korean heritage and the necessary age requirement of being under 40. The hospital is urging members of the community to get swabbed and join the “Be the Match” registry in hopes of finding a compatible match for Dr. Kim or other patients in need.

Hospital staff members and families of children who are patients at Cook Children’s Hospital have rallied behind Dr. Kim in an inspiring display of support. Pamela Billingsley, a hospital staff member, expressed her belief that many people have a “servant’s heart” and are eager to help, making this a simple and effective way for them to make a difference. Dr. Matthew Dzurik, the president of Cook Children’s Physician’s Network, emphasized the significant impact a bone marrow transplant can have, stating that without it, there is a high likelihood that Dr. Kim may not recover. The hospital aims to expand the network of potential donors within the DFW community and encourages anyone, regardless of their profession, to come forward and potentially save a life.
