Introducing The Region’S First Spanish-Speaking Kidney Transplant Clinic By Intermountain Health

Intermountain Health has launched a groundbreaking clinic called Clinica Hispana de Riñon at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT. This clinic is the first of its kind in the Intermountain West and caters exclusively to Spanish-speaking patients undergoing kidney transplantation. The clinic offers culturally comprehensive care, where providers communicate with patients in their native language and are trained to address cultural needs and educational styles.

The goal of the clinic is to bridge the gap between the medical community and the Latino community, ensuring that patients feel more comfortable and can fully understand the complex transplant process. Pre-transplant patients receive education and evaluation from bilingual providers in various fields, including nephrology, surgery, social work, finance, and nutrition. Research shows that patients who receive medical information in their preferred language are more likely to understand and participate in decisions about their care.

The clinic has been open for several months and has already made a significant impact. Patients have expressed a newfound confidence and understanding of their healthcare journey, leading to empowerment and reassurance. Intermountain Health Transplant Services also offers a post-transplant clinic specifically for Spanish-speaking patients, where they receive ongoing support from nephrology providers and pharmacists in their native language. For more information, interested individuals can visit Intermountain Health’s website or call the dedicated clinic hotline.
