The Indiana Donor Network is embarking on an ambitious initiative to ensure the eternal recognition of organ donor heroes. This new memorial is designed to honor those who have selflessly given the gift of life, like Tristan Hackman, whose organs saved four lives following her death in 2015. Her mother, Tammy Hackman, relays the emotional experience of seeing her daughter’s name previously etched on a temporary memorial, conveying a deep sense of memory and connection. In response to grieving families’ need for a more permanent homage, the Indiana Donor Network is constructing a lasting tribute that will commemorate donor heroes in perpetuity.
Located in Indianapolis, the new Tree of Life memorial represents a significant leap in honoring the legacy of donors. Housed in the main lobby, it will feature lighting effects and interactive kiosks that allow visitors to search for donor names, and family members the opportunity to add personal tributes. Upon selecting a name, a special visual display will unfold, with colors symbolizing the transmission of life illuminating the atrium. This memorial aims to be a living testament to those whose generosity has transformed lives, providing a comforting sanctuary for donor families.
With plans to incorporate records from as early as 1987, the memorial’s completion marks a poignant milestone for the Indiana Donor Network in its mission to celebrate donor heroes and support their families’ healing journeys. The installation is anticipated to be finalized by the end of the year, offering a place where stories like Tristan’s will continue to be remembered and cherished—a powerful reminder of lives intertwined by love, loss, and hope.
