INDIA: Spur Hospital Celebrates World Kidney Day, Honors 50 Kidney Donors and Recipients

WORLD NEWS – INDIA:

In a bid to spotlight an escalating health crisis, SS Spur Hospital in ARA Nagar commemorated World kidney Day 2025 by launching an intensive awareness event, laying bare the alarming surge of chronic kidney disease (CKD) across India. With lifestyle ailments like diabetes and hypertension gaining prevalence, this day resonated with stories of transformation and survival, while advocating for the noble cause of organ donation.

In a powerful address to the attendees, former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Sri Shivaraj Vtil, emphasized organ donation as one of humanity’s most profound acts. His words found echo in the hospital’s achievements, which boasted 36 successful kidney transplants between January 2024 and February 2025. Six of these were cadaver donations, underscoring the potential life-saving impact of donor registration and public awareness.

Dr. Sharan Shivaraj Patil, the esteemed chairman of Spur Group of Hospitals, highlighted the silent nature of CKD, urging for regular screenings, particularly for individuals with high-risk profiles such as diabetes and hypertension. He noted that the insidious progression of kidney diseases often escapes detection until advanced stages are reached, making early diagnosis critical.

Dr. Sunil, a senior nephrology consultant, advised the public to adhere to eight golden rules for kidney health, including weight management, balanced diet, hydration, avoidance of smoking, and regular monitoring of blood pressure and blood sugar levels. The 2025 theme, "Are Your Kidneys Okay? Detect Early and Protect," underscored the essential nature of early intervention.

As a tribute to the selfless individuals who make new life possible, SP Hospital took the opportunity to honor kidney donors. Their altruism has not only granted recipients a renewed lease on life but set a standard of compassion and courage. The hospital has accomplished over 50 transplants with remarkable success rates, illustrating the power of community solidarity in confronting CKD. This robust commitment to health advocacy and organ donation stands as a beacon of hope in a landscape burdened by chronic illness.
