INDIA: Organ Donation Message Amplified at Chandigarh 2025 Transplant Games with PGI’s Vital Role

WORLD NEWS – INDIA: In a poignant gathering at Chandigarh’s Sector 7 Sports Complex, organ recipients and donors from 15 states converged to participate in the inspiring Transplant Games 2025. Organized by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), this event aims to showcase that life post-transplant is not only possible but vibrant and fulfilling. Dr. Vipin Kaushal of PGIMER emphasizes that the games are an effort to bolster confidence among recipients that they can lead a normal, even athletic, lifestyle following organ transplants.

Participants included recipients of kidney, liver, and other vital organ transplants, alongside their living donors and families of deceased donors. An impassioned advocate for organ donation, Dr. Kaushal highlights the critical importance of increased organ donation awareness. The event serves to dispel myths and alleviate hesitations about organ donation, both during one’s lifetime and posthumously, stressing on how a single donor can save up to eight lives.

Among the athletes was Amrit Preet Singh, who received a kidney from his father in 2022. Marking an uplifting victory, Singh clinched the first position in his event, demonstrating the potential for a full, active recovery. His presence, along with another recipient who has lived over 40 years with a donated kidney, underscores the tremendous impact of organ donation on life expectancy and quality.

The Transplant Games not only celebrate life beyond organ transplants but also promote a larger message. In a country like India, where organ donation remains relatively rare compared to the need, these games illuminate the potential to change many lives. PGIMER’s initiative is poised to foster greater understanding and support for organ donation, aiming for a future where these life-saving acts become a societal norm.
