Mahesh Kumar, a dedicated cyclist from Rewari, is embarking on an ambitious journey to raise awareness about the critical importance of organ donation. His mission spans 14 countries and covers approximately 15,000 kilometers, with stops planned at various locations to promote the cause. Mahesh’s journey commenced from Kendriya Vidyalaya on Kawasa Road in Rewari, Haryana. At the flag-off event, notable figures such as Rewari District Commissioner Abhishek Meena and ITBP Assistant Commandant Ravish Chandra were present to encourage him. They emphasized the urgent need for more people to become organ donors, as many lives are lost each year due to a shortage of available organs.
Mahesh, who has previously cycled across major Indian highways connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Delhi to Mumbai, aims to highlight that one donor can save up to eight lives. His journey not only spreads awareness but also promotes a message of fitness and determination. As he travels through countries including Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, among others, he will engage in various programs to advocate for organ donation.
The journey is supported by several organizations, including Rotary International and various sponsors, focusing on organ donation awareness and universal brotherhood. India’s staggering statistic, where 500,000 people die annually due to organ shortages, underscores the importance of this mission. Mahesh’s efforts illustrate that even in the face of limited resources, determination can drive change.
The initiative has attracted support from military and civic organizations, demonstrating a collective endorsement of Mahesh’s mission. His journey serves as an inspiring reminder of the transformative power of individual action for social good, aiming to instill a culture of donation and awareness across borders.
