Heart transplant recipient fulfills dream as lifelong Chiefs fan at big game.

A lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan and heart transplant recipient, Ted Perez, is celebrating his one-year anniversary with his new heart by attending Super Bowl LVIII in person. Last year, Perez watched the Chiefs win the Super Bowl from a hospital bed at Saint Luke’s Health System. Now, he will have the opportunity to cheer on his team in Las Vegas. Despite facing congestive heart failure in 2016 and needing a defibrillator pacemaker, Perez remained a dedicated fan and attended as many games as he could until his health deteriorated. After receiving a new heart a few months later, Perez regained his strength through physical therapy and is now almost back to normal. He credits his heart team, supportive family and friends, and his faith for his recovery. Perez encourages others to become organ donors, as it offers a second chance at life.
