Ashley Payne, a mother from Forsyth County, North Carolina, received a liver transplant just in time for Christmas after waiting for two years. Payne had been diagnosed with two rare liver diseases ten years ago, leading to liver failure. After spending days in and out of Duke Hospital, she finally received a liver on September 26th, surpassing her doctors’ expectations for recovery. Payne credits her son for inspiring her to push through and is looking forward to spending time with him and her loved ones this holiday season. She hopes to get back to her passion for doing hair in the new year and express her gratitude to the organ donor’s family for saving her life. Payne also plans to start a volunteer organization to provide haircuts and beauty services to hospital patients.
