Well-known Boulder mechanic, Oliver Mendez, is in desperate need of a kidney transplant. Mendez, who has been a mechanic for over 20 years, was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2019 and has been relying on dialysis ever since. Despite his health condition, Mendez has continued working at his auto repair shop, KB Complete Auto Service, in order to support his family and cover his medical expenses.
The urgency of finding a kidney donor has intensified due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the number of potential organ donors has significantly decreased. Mendez’s family and friends have launched a campaign to raise awareness and find a compatible kidney donor. They are seeking a donor with blood type O-positive or O-negative, who is in good health and between the ages of 18 and 75.
The community has rallied behind Mendez, organizing fundraisers and spreading the word through social media platforms. Despite the challenges he faces, Mendez remains optimistic and grateful for the support he has received. Anyone interested in potentially being a kidney donor for Mendez can contact the UCHealth Transplant Center for more information on the screening process.
