Four-year-old Evie Green, who is awaiting a heart transplant, has received an outpouring of support in the form of Christmas cards from strangers. Evie, who has dilated cardiomyopathy, is decorating the walls of her hospital ward at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital with the cards. Her mother, Chloe, had requested cards instead of presents, as Evie loves making and opening them. Chloe is also using this opportunity to raise awareness about organ donation, a cause she has been passionate about since Evie’s admission to the hospital 289 days ago.
Evie’s condition affects her heart’s ability to pump blood, and she has been in the hospital since earlier this year when she suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite undergoing open-heart surgery and being placed on the urgent transplant list, a donor heart has not yet been found for her. However, Chloe remains hopeful and grateful for the tremendous support they have received. Evie’s story is a reminder of the importance of organ donation and the impact it can have on the lives of those awaiting life-saving transplants.
