A New Jersey couple is celebrating their daughter Brooklyn Civil’s first birthday. The milestone is especially significant as Brooklyn became the recipient of a revolutionary partial heart transplant nine months ago. The transplant, known as a pediatric domino heart transplant, saved Brooklyn’s life and also benefited another baby. The procedure involved removing the top half of a donor heart, which was then transplanted into Brooklyn. The lower half of the donor heart was used to save another baby as well.
