First Genetically Modified Pig Kidney Transplanted Into Human Recipient

A major milestone in medicine. The first genetically modified pig kidney has been transplanted into a human recipient. It happened last Saturday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. The patient is a 62 year old man who was suffering from kidney failure.

He had received a donor organ from a human in 2018 but it failed. Five years later, doctors said the new kidney seems to be functioning normally. The patient is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.
